Fire destroyed a barn and its contents on Wilderness Road Tuesday afternoon.
Newbern Volunteer Fire Department received the call in the area of Mountain View United Methodist Church around 3:30 p.m.
Fire Chief Miller Farris said the approximately 20-foot by 40-foot log barn, with tin covering the exterior, was fully engulfed when the first units arrived on the scene. Firefighters had to tear the tin covering from the structure to get to the fire, he said.
The barn was used for storage of items such as air compressors and tools. Farris said a doghouse was located inside the building, but the dog was able to get out.
Farris estimated damage to the building and its contents at around $30,000.
A cause for the blaze has not been determined.
Newbern was assisted by Dublin Volunteer Fire Department, REMSI, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and Appalachian Power Co. Farris estimated about 25 personnel were on the scene from all departments.
