Virginia Cooperative Extension is offering a Manager Certification Course the next two Mondays that will allow food service workers to beef up their knowledge of food safety and receive certification from National Restaurant Association.

The 16-hour ServSafe Essentials course will be held Feb. 24 and March 3, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., at Montgomery County Government Center. Contact Mary Rupe at amary@vt.edu to pre-register.

ServSafe is an accredited food safety certification program developed by the National Restaurant Association’s Educational Foundation and offered by the Extension service since 1991. The course provides instruction on food safety concepts including sanitation, food storage, safety regulations, pest management and safe food handling practices.

After completing the classroom work, participants take a national certification exam. Those who pass the exam receive a ServSafe certificate, which is valid for five years.
