‘Celebration of Life’ to be held for Gregory

By MELINDA WILLIAMS

Friends and family of Pulaski native Rachel Gregory will hold a “Celebration of Life” in her honor Saturday, Feb. 15, at Pulaski Train Station.

After putting up a fight for several years, Gregory lost her battle with the liver disease Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis Feb. 5. She was living in South Carolina at the time.

“Since Pulaski was Rachel’s true hometown, we would like to have a Celebration of Life to honor her, and for all of her Pulaski family and friends to say goodbye,” said Rachel’s mother, Beth Gregory.

Rachel had just been placed on the organ transplant list Dec. 31, but she succumbed to the disease before she could get a new liver. Throughout her ordeal she worked to raise awareness of liver disease and the need for organ donation through her website and Facebook pages “Share Her Smile.”

Her mother said this effort will not come to an end. “While she will be severely missed, her legacy will live on in Share Her Smile, which is soon to become a nonprofit organization with huge plans,” she said.

The Celebration of Life gathering will be held 6-8 p.m.

I have known Rachel since she was a toddler through my good friends Jim and Beth.

I was always enthralled by her sunshine smile and bubbly personality. God bless her, Rachel put up a valiant fight right up to the end.

Rachel’s untimely passing puts into perspective for the need for more people to sign up for the organ donor program. What better legacy can a person give than to save another person’s life or give a person a better quality of life when the donor is gone.
