A Pulaski man pleaded guilty Thursday of assaulting the mother of his child when she proceeded with a birthday party while he was asleep.
It was Renard Marcel Davidson’s third conviction for assault on a family member, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney Mike Fleenor.
According to Fleenor’s summary of the evidence, Pulaski Police Department Cpl. Wes Ratcliff found the victim had a swollen eye and lip when he responded to a call at a residence on Craig Street Sept. 9.
The woman told Ratcliff that they were preparing to have a birthday party for their son, but she was unable to get Davidson, 26, to wake up, so she started the party without him. “When (Davidson) woke up, he became enraged and struck her,” said Fleenor.
Defense attorney Cynthia Dodge said the “story” the child’s mother told the police that day was “slightly different” from her testimony during a preliminary hearing. Nonetheless, she conceded the evidence was sufficient to find her client guilty.
Under a plea agreement, Davidson was ordered to serve four months of a five-year prison sentence. Upon release from custody, he’ll be placed on three years of supervised probation. He also is prohibited from contacting the victim or going to her home.
