Ruby Smoot Pool

Ruby Smoot Pool, age 91, of Dublin passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 in Commonwealth Assisted Living, Radford.

She was born in Ruby, S.C. to the late Dennis Grady Ratliff and Mary Rebecca Allen Ratliff. She was also preceded in death by the children’s father, Elmore Smoot; her second husband, John E. Pool; her son, Darrell K. Smoot, and sisters, Blanche Allen and Mildred Wilkes.

She was a long time member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Mt. Jackson. She loved gardening and quilting. Mrs. Pool was a victim of Alzheimer’s disease and spent her closing days at Commonwealth Assisted Living in Radford.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lee and John Campbell of Dublin; four grandchildren, John Campbell Jr. of Buckhead, Ga., Kelly Clarke of Sandy Hook, Jennifer Griffith of Clarksville, Tenn. and Darrell Smoot Jr.-Columbia, S.C.; the six great-grandchildren with whom she was blessed, Lacey and Blake Campbell, Jack and Alex Clarke and Ellie Griffith and Haleigh Smoot, and two brothers, Roy Ratliff of McColl, S.C. and John Ratliff of Aiea, Hawaii.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 2, 2 p.m., in Bower Funeral Home Chapel, Pulaski, with Pastor Terrie Sternberg officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 1 p.m. until service hour at Bower Funeral Home, Pulaski. Graveside services will be held Friday, Jan. 3, 2 p.m., in Mt. Jackson Cemetery, Mt. Jackson, with the Rev. Matthew A. Diehl officiating.
