Sen. Phillip Puckett, D-38th District, is joining other state legislators and business leaders in opposing proposed Environmental Protection Agency regulations on new coal plants.
The proposed “New Source Performance Standards (NSPS)” regulations would impose limits on the amount of carbon that can be emitted from new coal-fired power plants.
According to a press release from Puckett’s office, the legislators intended to release a letter to President Barack Obama urging him to “abandon the EPA’s latest proposal and consider a more sensible approach to the nation’s energy policy.” The letter is signed by 85 members of the Virginia General Assembly, according to the press release.
Puckett represents all of Pulaski, Bland Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell and Tazewell counties; parts of Montgomery, Smyth, and Wise counties, and the cities of Norton and Radford.
