New River Community College will offer an electrical groundsman training program beginning Feb. 3.
The course will be held at the Dublin campus each Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., through Feb. 27.
A groundsman typically works in construction and maintenance of electrical distribution or transmission facilities. They assist with electrical projects under the supervision of journeyman electricians.
NRCC’s training course, offered in partnership with TCR Management Group, will prepare students for an entry-level position in the electrical contracting trade. Participants will earn industry-recognized certifications such as an OSHA T&D Certification, a Basic Work Zone and Flagging Certification, a Career Readiness Certificate and CPR and First Aid certifications.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, electrical jobs are expected to increase 12 percent between 2008 and 2018. Since 2010, TCR Management Group has placed approximately 86 percent of its successful participants with its job placement assistance.
