Local rock band Aside Oceans will release a music video for their song “Something I Did” on Tuesday night.

Aside Oceans consists of vocalist Bradley Steele, guitarists Billy Steele and Gabe McFarland, bassist Tyler Davis, and drummer Steve Brooks. According to Bradley, the band decided to film “Something I Did” after plans fell through to film a different song.

“Honestly, we had an idea to film a different song, but it just didn’t work out,” said Steele. “So we decided to take the poppiest song we have and just go up on the mountain and play it.”

The band, who has been a staple in Pulaski’s music scene for the past several years, filmed the video locally on Draper Mountain. The first half of the video was filmed on the trail that runs through the overlook, while the second half was filmed near the overlook itself on the Draper side.

Mark Spraker, who studies film at New River Community College, produced the video for “Something I Did.” Although he has filmed the band playing live on multiple occasions, this is the first music video he has ever made.

According to Steele, the song carries a deep message reflecting on the perceived normal behavior between people nowadays. This is emphasized in a line from the song’s chorus.

“The chorus says ‘I would rather be making love than making it up for something I did,’” said Steele. “It’s just about mankind’s carnal nature and how that is kind of the go to nowadays, other than being cool to each other and embracing the good side of life.”

“Something I Did” will be the last single from the band’s 2013 album “A Lesson in Architecture.” It is their third music video overall, the other two being the title track from “A Lesson in Architecture,” and “Voices in the Hands” from their 2010 album “Minds Like Parachutes.”

Aside Oceans will enter the studio to record their upcoming EP, titled “Rock and Roll is Dead,” later this month.

They also plan to hit the road this summer with Radford-based pop punk band Bottom of the Ninth in July. The tour will take the two bands as far west as Texas.

For now, Aside Oceans plan on using “Something I Did” to end their run with “A Lesson in Architecture,” before moving forward with future plans. According to Steele, the band’s ultimate priority remains to write music to the best of their ability.

“We are just focused on bringing people quality music,” said Steele. “Our world needs it.”

The music video for “Something I Did” will be released at 8 pm on Tuesday, Jan. 7, on Aside Ocean’s Facebook page.
