The Pulaski YMCA is excited to announce a new program that will begin next year called “First Place for Health.” This program is a Christ-centered health program that emphasizes balance in the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual areas of life. The 12-week program, which includes a weekly weigh-in and group discussion, and seven-days a-week personal Bible study, can be beneficial for anyone interested in obtaining a balanced lifestyle.
The program will be led by the Rev. Olin and Ruth Ann Whitener who became involved in the First Place Health Program in the fall of 1997 in Darlington, S.C. Ruth Ann started in this Christian-based health weight loss program first and Olin benefited from it as well before he joined in. Together they lost well over 100 pounds! Today Olin walks in half marathons and participates in 5 Ks. He and Ruth Ann work out at the YMCA three or four mornings each week. They are excited about leading this program together in January 2014.
The initial First Place for Health meeting will be held at the YMCA on Sunday, January 12, at 3:30 p.m. Cost to participate will be $10 and will go to the cost of materials and your first place bible study book. At this first group meeting, participants will meet other group members, get an overview of materials and learn what to expect at other meetings. The meetings will last about 90 minutes which includes time for weigh-in.
Participation in the first session will be limited to the first 10 applicants. For more information and registration forms call or sign-up at the YMCA 540-980-3671 or contact Olin and/or Ruth Ann Whitener at 540-674-5934. Registration deadline is Dec. 31 or until ten participants have been selected.
