New River Community College will offer a Private Pilot Ground School beginning in January to prepare students for receiving a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) private pilot rating.
Students will be prepared for taking the FAA examination through presentations of the fundamental principals of flight. Lessons will include theory of flight, aircraft standards and specifications, basic aircraft construction, weight and balance, navigation, meteorology, principles of radio communication and application of aero physics.
The three-credit course begins Thursday, Jan. 23, and continues each Thursday from 6-9 p.m. through May 13. The first class meets at Virginia Tech Airport. Tuition is $397.65 for in-state students.
