This team is really something to talk about!
The Pulaski Middle School Orioles boys’ basketball team hasn’t let up at all since the last time we heard from them, winning three more games against Auburn, Carroll County, and Christiansburg to move to 11-0 on the season.
The Orioles took on the Eagles of Auburn on November 21, in a game that featured the entirety of the Orioles eighteen man roster, including four sixth graders.
The Orioles came away with a 48-35 victory, implementing very good teamwork in every phase of the game. Coach Akers could not say enough about how he is with the team attitude.
“Once again, the attitude of the players was all about teamwork and playing their best while on the floor.”
CC Grubb led all Orioles in scoring with 12 points, followed by Trent Blankenship with 7 points and Caleb Kirtner with 5 points. Logan Robertson, Sean Spencer, Noah Kyle added 4 points apiece, while Carter Alley and Christian “Bubba” Cook added 3 each. Alex Akers, John Osteen, and Conner Turpin added 2 points each.
The Orioles next game found them hitting the road to take on Carroll County for the second time this year. The Orioles earned a 53-33 victory over the Cavaliers in a game that featured a change in style by the Orioles.
“Our typical defensive strategy is to apply constant pressure, but we were really able to work on our zone throughout this game,” Coach Akers said. The coaches also talked about how unselfish the team is.
“The players on our team are so unselfish,” said Coach Akers after the game. “Several of our guys that are very capable of scoring a lot of points unselfishly made sure that every player was involved in the win. Watching guys give up easy lay-ups and make an extra pass says a lot about the quality of these young men. I am very proud of the tremendous attitudes of all our players.”
Sean Spencer led the Orioles with 12 points. Bubba Cook added 9 points of his own, while Trent Blankenship and Alex Akers added 6 points each. Alex Dalton, Noah Kyle, and Hunter Shrewsbury added 4 points apiece. Carter Alley, John Osteen, and CC Grubb added 2 points each.
Pulaski opened up December with a 49-29 victory over Christiansburg Middle School. This game really highlighted the Orioles offensive plays.
“We were able to slow the tempo down to run plays which proved to be effective,” Coach Akers said in his postgame report. The coaches again raved about how team-oriented this group is. “The players continue to a good and very supportive of each other.”
CC Grubb led all scorers with 18 points, with Trent Blankenship adding 11 and Sean Spencer adding 8. Noah Kyle pitched in 5 points of his own, while Alex Akers added 3 points. Hunter Shrewsbury and Caleb Kirtner also scored 2 points each.
The Orioles were scheduled to be in action against Scott Memorial at the “Orioles Nest” last night. Reports from that story will be in this weekends paper.
The teams will be on the road in Dublin on December 10, and then another road game on December 17 against Christiansburg.
