‘Happy Neuter Year’ campaign kicking off

Owners of unaltered male dogs and cats are invited by Mountain View Humane to have a “Happy Neuter Year” during the month of January.

The nonprofit Christiansburg spay and neuter clinic’s “Happy Neuter Year” campaign, which runs throughout the month of January, will offer $20 surgeries for neutering of male dogs and cats regardless of the owner’s income. Availability is limited and is valid only for owned animals.

The clinic’s normal neutering fee is $68 for dogs and $45 for cats.

Spaying and neutering is one of the most effective ways to reduce the homeless pet population and is safe for puppies and kittens as young as eight to 10 weeks old, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Visit www.MountainViewHumane.org or call toll free (855) HIP-SNIP for more information or to schedule an appointment. Appointments can be scheduled at both the Roanoke and Christiansburg clinics.

The Christiansburg clinic, which serves Montgomery and surrounding counties, is at 53-B West Main St.

PetSmart Charities, the largest funder of animal welfare efforts in North America, is sponsoring the campaign.

20.00 is a small price to pay to do something that will help eliminate abuse and over population. Nothing makes me madder than seeing a “Free Kitten” sign in the same yard every 3 months. Be a responsible pet owner or don’t be a pet owner at all.
