Direct Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Wytheville has been doing its share to help the community by way of fundraising events held every week, notably their Cars n’ Coffee events and car washes.

The car washes take place on their lot, but proceeds go to local organizations. So far they have raised funds for Family Resource Center, Children’s Advocacy Center, the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program, and the Wythe County Humane Society.

Cars n’ Coffee includes a monthly silent auction to benefit a local community or charitable organization. Sherry Spence, marketing director for Direct Dodge, said there was a good turnout at last week’s Cars n’ Coffee event in Wytheville. The event was held to raise money for a local family with five children in need of assistance with Christmas and various household items.

“We raised $668.50 for the needy family and Bill Greever and wife, Roxanne, are working on getting the family a much needed refrigerator,” said Spence. “They have been without one for several months. I believe they are doing that on their own and the money will go towards clothes for the five children.”

Spence said the Greevers also give generously to the United Way and have sponsored families at Christmas every year since they purchased the dealership in 1997.

The dealership also provided space on their lot to church, youth, civic and school groups every weekend through October for car wash fundraisers. Their goal is to support local nonprofit groups by giving them a venue for a fundraiser and an opportunity to get a guaranteed $125 for their organization. If the car wash does not generate as much funds as planned, the dealership donates $125 or the difference, guaranteeing they do not leave empty handed.

Car washes are slated to start back up this spring once the weather allows.

“Cars n’ Coffee at Direct was conceived as a monthly social event for owners and admirers of specialty automobiles and motorcycles.  Incredibly, the community has embraced the event and has helped us develop it into a wonderful tool for giving back to the entire southwest Virginia area.  Through our silent auction and car wash programs, we have raised thousands of dollars for deserving civic groups and charities,” said Bill Greever, owner principal and president of Direct Dodge. “It’s a credit to the many old car aficionados in our area and their giving and caring nature. We, at Direct Chrysler Dodge Jeep, are proud to be able to facilitate this event and have plans in place to make it bigger and better in the new year to come.  Again, it’s the participants that make it happen.”

Cars n’ Coffee takes place the first Saturday of every month from 8-11 a.m. Other weekly fundraisers, such as car washes, are also held Saturdays from 8-11 a.m. at the dealership at 495 W. Lee Hwy., Wytheville. Any group or organization wishing to schedule a fundraiser may contact Sherry Spence at 276-228-8801.
