Danny Lee Cook, age 59, of Roanoke and formerly of Radford and Pulaski County, peacefully went to his eternal home on Nov. 20, 2013 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Pearisburg on January 31, 2954, son of the late Clifton Lee and Hope Morehead Cook. He was also preceded in death by his son, Danny “Lee” Cook II.
Danny “Cookie” was a graduate of New River Community College and was a specialist in electronics. He commenced his career at Volvo Heavy Trucks immediately after his college and worked for over 30 years until diabetes made it necessary to retire for medical reasons. Danny loved all sports and had played football for the Radford “Bobcats” in the early 1970s. He worked hard, even as a teenager, but always found time for activities such as boating, fishing, skiing, scuba diving, karate and especially his motorcycle. He taught water skiing for NRCC and built computers for many friends. He had a love to explore all facets of work and life, including real estate and more.
He will be missed by daughter, Michelle Cook King and her husband, Jacob, of Dublin. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Roanoke and stepsons. After losing his parents at an early time in life, he looked to other relatives who will miss him. He was nephew of Charles D. Morehead, Robin and Evan of Richmond area. He was a special nephew and like a foster son to Aunt Jo and Uncle John “Jay” Bingham of Radford. Also surviving is great aunt, Wreathia Patton Strock, many special cousins and others, as well as the mother of his children, Regina R. Piland of Dublin.
Fighting a long and hard battle with diabetes, he is resting in peace. Memorial service was held on Nov. 23 in the Chapel of Mullins Funeral Home, Radford, with Pastor Ronald Blevins officiating. Entombment is in Dublin Highland Memorial Garden’s Mausoleum with his mother and his special son, Lee.
