CHRISTIANSBURG – A 51-year-old man pulled from his burning mobile home by a neighbor last Friday died Sunday.
Christiansburg spokeswoman Becky Wilburn said in a Tuesday press release that Ronnie Joe Hawkins died from injuries received just after 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29. She said the fire isn’t considered suspicious, but its cause remains under investigation.
Hawkins lived in Interstate Overnight Trailer Park in the 2700 block of Roanoke Street in Christiansburg. Wilburn said last week that a neighbor noticed the home on fire and called 911.
The neighbor then entered the fully engulfed mobile home with another park resident and pulled the unconscious man outside, according to Wilburn.
Hawkins was airlifted to a Winston-Salem, N.C. burn center, but his rescuers were not injured.
