Pulaski’s Hesnel Eckman YMCA fundraising chair Dr. Cindy Southern announced that the Y’s “We Need Each Other” campaign reached its first target of $20,000 as of mid-October.
The Y has challenged the community to participate in their campaign as they strive to raise $100,000 to utilize in facility improvements and programming offerings to meet the community’s needs.
“I have so many memories of the YMCA; memories of daycare, birthday parties, swimming lessons and rec basketball games,” said Southern, reflecting on her experiences at the Y. “As an adult, I rejoined to stay fit, but it has been so much more. I have grown to know so many wonderful people. I have met friends who encouraged me to work harder while training for a half Iron Man (triathlon). At the Y there are people who ask how you are and truly care. These are people in our community. People I see as patients, people I see in the grocery store, people who mean so much to me. The YMCA is about people working together for health and to help those in need. It is a true asset to the town and county of Pulaski. Let’s keep it thriving by giving what we can today.”
Tax deductible contributions can be sent to the Hensel Eckman YMCA at 165 Oakhurst Ave., Pulaski, Va. 24301 or made online at www.pulaskiymca.org.
