“We couldn’t be happier with the decision to offer this position to David,” said YMCA Executive Director Allison Hunter. “He brings a good background from working with adolescents at the Minnick Center in Wytheville, as well as working here for us on a part-time basis. It was a perfect transition for him to move into the position of supervisor and we are already seeing some enhancements to the center.”
“Where else can a child have normal classroom activities with possible outside time as found in other day facilities in the area and then have so much more?” asked Lewis. “Our kids get to swim at least two or three times a week, sometimes even more for our full day students.”
The gym gets used by the children as well, said Lewis. “We spend at least part of every day in the gym playing games, shooting hoops or just running around; it really releases a lot of the energy these kids bring with them,” he said, adding, “It’s almost like they get a free Y membership as part of their low tuition fees. Where else could you get such a value?”
Currently the Y has openings in all their child care classrooms, both before and after school as well as full day. For more information, please contact the Y at 540-980-3671.
