On September 19 the Pulaski County School Board adopted adjustments to Pulaski County Public Schools’ attendance policy. These adjustments limit the number of undocumented excused absences to 10 per school year. Undocumented excused absences in excess of the allowable 10 will not be accepted and be viewed as unexcused absences.
Pulaski County Public Schools respects periodic needs for a student to be absent due to an illness, should the parent decide the student does not need to visit the doctor, or for an absence that is due to an issue outside of the control of the parent or guardian. When properly communicated to the student’s school, these absences traditionally were accepted as an undocumented excused absence. Previously there was no limit on the number of days for this category. The adjustments to this policy set a limit of 10 days per school year.
These adjustments were adopted in an effort to improve student attendance. For more information, please contact the principal of your child’s school or Dr. Gregory A. Brown, Assistant Superintendent at 994-2515.
