CHRISTIANSBURG – Those planning to take Route 114 (Pepper’s Ferry Road) to Christiansburg Sunday may have to take a detour in the area of New River Valley Mall.

If the weather is conducive to work, Virginia Department of Transportation will close a section of Route 114 to install a new railroad crossing as part of the widening project. The section of road between Majestic and Marshall drives will be closed from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The tour will have eastbound traffic making right turns onto Majestic, Windsor, Berkshire and Gibson drives before turning left onto Cambria Street and North Franklin Street (Route 460 business) at the traffic light.

Westbound traffic will take the Route 460 business exit, then make right turns onto Cambria Street and Gibson Drive, left turns on Berkshire, Windsor and Majestic drives, and then a left onto Route 114.

Detour signs will be in place to help guide traffic.

The $24.5 million project to widen Route 114 from two to four lanes at New River Valley Mall is scheduled to be complete in fall 2014.
