LewisGale Hospital–Pulaski and Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed two new physicians to the hospital and community with a New Physicians Reception and Business After Hours in the hospital’s L. Brinkley Eure Education Building.

The theme of the evening was Oktoberfest, featuring a variety of German music and foods, along with more traditional foods.

General surgeon Chris Downing, joined the hospital’s active medical staff and the practice of LewisGale Physicians.  He received his medical degree from Ohio University of Osteopathic Medicine, performed his residency at Community General Osteopathic Hospital, and is Board Certified by the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.

As a general surgeon, Downing performs a wide variety of surgical procedures that treat patients with stomach, intestinal, gallbladder, esophagus, colon and breast diseases.  He specializes in minimally invasive laproscopic techniques that result in shorter hospital stays and faster recovery.  He also does diagnostic tests, including colonoscopy, endoscopy, and performs in-office vasectomies.

Downing is married and has one daughter. He enjoys spending time with his family and living on Claytor Lake, where his favorite pastime is fishing.

Orthopedic surgeon Anthony A. McPherron has joined the medical staffs of LewisGale Hospital–Pulaski and LewisGale Hospital–Montgomery, as well as the multi-specialty practice of LewisGale Physicians.

McPherron received his medical degree at Ohio University School of Osteopathic Medicine and performed his residency at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center. He was fellowship-trained at Florida Orthopedic Institute, specializing in adult reconstructive surgery, and is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery.

He specializes in hip, knee and shoulder replacements, and has extensive experience performing arthroscopic surgery and treating shoulder rotator cuff issues. He also focuses on cartilage transplantation when loss or damage is present.

Married with four children, he enjoys hunting and outdoor sports.
