The television series “American Pickers” is coming to Virginia in November and they’re looking for “oddballs” – oddball antiques or historic items and maybe even some oddball people, too.
According to a press release from the History Channel, the show is “looking for interesting local characters with interesting items.” The series centers on skilled pickers Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz as they travel nationwide looking for unique and valuable antiques and treasures long forgotten in junkyards and barns.
But they’re not looking for typical antiques, such as furniture, farming items, tools, appliances, crocks, country primitives, glassware or pottery; and they don’t visit flea markets, antique shops or malls.
The pickers’ current interests are movie, music and sports memorabilia, pre-1950s western items and “any other oddball, one-of-a-kind or interesting historical item.” Other items they’re looking for are Vespas, Lambretta and Cushman motor scooters, old advertising signs, motorcycles, turn-of-the-century to pre-1960s bicycles, unusual transistor or tabletop radios and old tin, wind-up or cast iron toys.
Also pre-1950s vending machines, pinball and slot machines, antique casino and gaming machines, vintage advertising items, taxidermy, early Boy Scout items, pre-1960s diner collectibles and TV merchandise, classic motorcycle memorabilia, old rodeo items, airline collectibles (Pan-Am, TWA, etc.), late 1970s and earlier military, vintage police and fire collectibles, pre-1940s telephones, folk art, vintage BB and cap guns, early Halloween and pre-1940s Christmas items, vintage election memorabilia, musical instruments, Civil War antiques, vintage gas pumps, pre-1970s neon signs, strange woodcarvings, vintage collegiate collectibles and casino tables.

Emails should include your name, telephone number, town, state and pictures of the items that might be of interest to Wolfe and Fritz.
