The Pulaski County United Way has chosen this year’s campaign chairman in the person of Lee Smith, a Pulaski County native. Working with Lee will be community members who will handle different aspects of the fall campaign.
Smith retired from UPS in 2005 and, despite several moves, including a three-and-half year stint overseas, returned to Pulaski because, he said, his roots are here and he loved the region and its people.
When asked why he decided to become involved with the local United Way, Lee said that when he worked for UPS, he ran employee campaigns each year and learned about the work local United Ways did for their communities. He said he learned that each community had their own set of needs they were dealing with and that each United Way responded to their own communities’ needs.
All monies donated to the Pulaski County United Way stay in the county to help local charities. Contributions are tax deductible and support residents from Fairlawn to Hiwassee.
