LewisGale to host cancer awareness fair

It’s estimated this year alone more than 1.6 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer. LewisGale Regional Cancer Center Pulaski has cared for many of those diagnosed in our community.  In effort to educate more people about the disease and the importance of early detection, the center is holding a cancer awareness health fair.

“Our goal is to save lives by arming the public with latest information on cancer prevention and detection,” said Marsha Myers, Director of the cancer center. “We also want to raise awareness about the magnitude of services and advanced treatment options that are available right in our community.”

The health fair will be held on Thursday, September 19, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the cancer center. The event will feature free screenings and health information, and an opportunity for the public to meet the center’s cancer care team. Light refreshments will also be served.

Free cancer screenings will include:

  • Skin cancer, exposed areas only
  • Breast Exams
  • Prostate Cancer (PSA and digital rectal exam)
  • Cervical Cancer (PAP/pelvic exam)

Cancer screening participants must register by calling Consult-A-Nurse, a free 24/7 physician referral and health information service, at 1-877-2HCA-DOCS (1-877-242-2362).

LewisGale Regional Cancer Center Pulaski is accredited by the American College of Surgeons and offers a wide scope of services for diagnosing and treating cancer, including radiation oncology, on-site chemotherapy and surgery, genetic counseling and digital mammograms.
