Katherine Stanger Bailey, 90, passed away Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, in Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk, after a brief illness. Born in Blacksburg, Feb. 17, 1923, she was the daughter of the late William and Maggie Jones Stanger.
A lifelong member of Trinity Baptist Church, Katherine loved her church and her family dearly. She had made her home in Carrollton, for the past four years with her daughter, Sandra, and attended Faith Freewill Baptist Church. Katherine loved animals, especially cats. Her favorite was her cat, Buster. She was passionate and prided herself in growing the most beautiful African violets.
In addition to her parents, Katherine is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Arthur V. Bailey Sr.; her daughter, Darlene Yates, and brother, Richard Stanger. She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Sandra C. Sorrell, and her husband, Roy, of Carrollton, with whom she made her home; her son, Arthur V. Bailey Jr. and his wife, Kay, of Shawsville; her sister, Virginia Yates, of Christiansburg; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather for visitation, Monday, Sept. 16, 10 a.m., in Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, Dublin.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Pulaski County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1046, Dublin, VA 24084 or to Trinity Baptist Church, 4008 Robinson Tract Road, Pulaski, VA 24301.
