Campers and cabin guests staying at Claytor Lake State Park Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20-21, will have a chance to show off their chili cooking and horseshoe tossing skills.
The state park will host a Campers Chili Cook-off and Horseshoe Tournament that weekend, with registration taking place Friday or by noon Saturday. Register with the camp host at Campsite D7.
Those taking part in the chili contest must make the chili at their campsite or cabin, not bring a prepared dish to the park with them. Tasting by the judges will take part at each contestant’s campsite or cabin and all entries must be ready for tasting by 4 p.m. Saturday.
First, second and third place prizes will be awarded.
The horseshoe tournament will be a doubles team event, with standard horseshoe rules. The champion team will be selected through elimination rounds.
Prizes for both events will be awarded at Campsite D7 at 6 p.m. during a special gathering featuring bluegrass music.
Since the cook-off and tournament are only open to overnight guests, park officials urge interested participants to book their campsite or cabin early by calling (800) 933-7275 or visiting www.reserveamerica.com.
Claytor Lake State Park is at 6620 Ben H. Bolen Drive, Dublin.
