The defense and prosecution jointly requested the last continuance in the embezzlement case of former Pulaski County High School cheerleading coach Angelia Paige Harrell.
According to court records, the first continuance was requested by the defense, with no objection from the prosecution. Both sides requested the last two continuances jointly, records show.
The case is scheduled for a jury trial on Oct. 21. Court officials said they believe scheduling difficulties are the reason for the continuances. Bland County Commonwealth’s Attorney Erin DeHart has been appointed special prosecutor in the case due to the fact Harrell was a county employee.
Harrell is alleged to have diverted funds from the PCHS cheerleading program for her personal use between March 2010 and October 2011, according to the indictment. In addition to being head coach of the varsity squad, she also was a guidance counselor at the time of the alleged incidents.
