In July, the Red Cross issued an emergency appeal for blood donors and the need is still very critical.
According to Sandy Myers of the American Red Cross, all blood types are needed, especially O positive and O negative. She says donors do not need to know their blood type in order to donate blood.
A bloodmobile will be conducted by The American Red Cross at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Monday, Aug. 19 from noon-6 p.m. The church is located on Bob White Boulevard, across from Food City.
Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. It must be 56 days since a previous donation, and donors must present either a donor card or a picture ID. Myers noted the waiting period for donating blood after receiving a tattoo has been eliminated.
Donors are encouraged to eat well and drink plenty of fluids. For more information about donor eligibility or to schedule an appointment, visit www.redcrossblood.org. Walk-ins are always welcome.
