Bonita Walter Leathers

Bonita Walter Leathers, 89, of Newbern, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013 at Highland Ridge Rehab Center, Dublin.

She was the daughter of the late William Wallace Walter and Faye Brown Walter. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Robert Lee Leathers. Bonita was a professor at New River Community College for 23 years and was named Professor Emeritus in 1996.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Mike Oestreicher and Connie Leathers and husband, Dan Bailey; sister, Jean Fellmann; grandchildren, John and Jennifer Sledd and Robert Jordan, and great-grandchild, Elena Sledd.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 9, at 10 a.m. from Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastors Eddie Callahan and Bob McFadden officiating. Entombment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Dublin.

The family will receive friends Thursday, 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Flowers are appreciated, but memorials may be made to Christ’s Church, Radford, Church Building Fund, 310 4th Ave., Radford, VA 24141.

    So sorry for your loss. The world has lost a precious lady but Heaven has gained a great one. She is definitely in a better place we know. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
