Rangers finish 4th in USSSA World Series
Congratulations to the NRV Rangers on a 4th place finish in the 2013 USSSA World Series this week at the Harkraders Sports Complex
The Rangers were the only local team in Virginia to make it to the final four games of the series. They were eliminated
by the Brooklyn Bulldogs from New York. The Rangers record was 5-2 in four days of baseball games.
The team also won two events in the opening day of skills competition. Keith Reed won the “home run derby” event in a close contest with teammate Brock Draper, as the
final two players were in a show down for the 12u home run king crown. Austin Custer, Jacob Breen, Cole Montgomery, Jeremy Chadwick, and Brandt Caldwell were the players to win the “around the horn” skills event.
“The boys played their hearts out from the beginning to the last elimination game of four days of baseball against good teams,” said Coach Kevin Alley. “We were missing several players that could not attend and that hurt us in the later games. Jacob Breen fractured a pinky finger on his throwing hand on a dive into second, putting us down to only nine players during the elimination bracket play. The Rangers played like true champions, just like they have done all season. It was a great year of baseball and thanks to all the parents, for the opportunity to coach a group like this”.
This finished the Rangers 2013 spring and summer season, with an awesome 37-12-1 overall record. In their tournament list of accomplishments were 5 first-place and 2 second-place and 4 third-place finishes. Of the 12 loses, 6 games were by 1 run. The tie was called because of rainbefore the game could be finished. Notable tournaments won : USSSA WESTERN VA. State Championship, USSSA VA. NIT Elite Championship and MTS
NATIONS Spring State.
