Pulaski County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) hosted “Sundaes on Wednesdays” from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, to honor volunteers for their services. According to Ava Stilwell, project director, this is because they appreciate their volunteers every day.
The event was sponsored by the New River Valley Agency on Aging. This is the organization’s sixth year collecting household and personal care supplies and monetary donations for supplies to donate to homebound seniors living in the New River Valley, which average about 250 a year. “We collect and donate about $40 worth of paper towels, toilet paper, etc. to each person in January,” said Stillwell, “the time of year things are needed the most.” RSVP always needs more volunteers.
They currently need help with transportation, literacy, and the volunteer RSVP program. They are also looking for cooks and servers to volunteer at Daily Bread. Stilwell says they always need volunteers for the telephone reassurance program. These volunteers make daily or weekly calls to people isolated in their homes.
To sign up to volunteer, contact Ava Stilwell, project director of Pulaski County RSVP, 106 N. Washington Ave. Pulaski, VA 24301, or by phone at (540) 980-3969, or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
