Sixteen New River Community College students have completed requirements for the three-semester practical nursing program at the college. They received certificates and participated in a pinning ceremony Friday, July 26.
Graduating were Shaunna Leigh Andrews of Radford, Janessa Kaye Bolt of Willis, Natalie Dawn Breeden of Dublin, Casey Jean Calfee of Radford, Vickie Hill Harvey of Radford, Rhonda Lynn Hungate of Bland, Shannon Nicole Jarels of Blacksburg, Brandy Avants Kastilahn of Radford, Haley Danielle Lawson of Pulaski, Ashley Linette Ligon of Blacksburg, Kristen Ann Litton of Wytheville, Cynthia Ann Miles of Blacksburg, Amy Jo Plaugher of Blacksburg, Cynthia Lea Dame Reed of Christiansburg, Stephani Michelle Richards of Radford and Rechell LeeAnn Williams of Radford.
Practical nursing students having special roles in the ceremony were Ashley Ligon, who was chosen by her peers to give the graduation address, and Vickie Harvey, who sang “Angel By Your Side.” Natalie Breeden led the nurses in reciting the Florence Nightingale Pledge.
NRCC’s certificate program prepares students to qualify as contributing members of a health team, rendering patient care in a variety of health service facilities. The graduates are eligible to take the Virginia Board of Nursing examination leading to licensing as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
