Recent Pulaski graduate Corey Smith competed in the FLW tournament held this past weekend at Badin Lake, in Badin, North Carolina.
For the 2013 season, Corey is currently ranked 38 out of 120 anglers. Through this past weekends tournament, he holds 408 total points. Dennis Surratt of Denton, North Carolina is currently in first place in the co-angler category with 738 points.
Several other local names can be found in the co-angler division. Wayne Smelser of Rural Retreat is currently in second place with 734 points. Travis Decker of Dublin is ranked 50 with 279 points, and Kurt Moser of Max Meadows has 60 points and is ranked number 114.
Robert Walser of Lexington, North Carolina leads the boater division with 716 points.
In this past weekends tournament, Hubert Roman of Lexington, North Carolina earned first place in the co-angler division with a five fish limit that tipped the scales at 21 pounds 2 ounces.
Chad Poteat of Mount Airy earned first place in the boater division with five fish that weighed in at 17 pounds 11 ounces. Wayne Smelser earned fifth place with a five fish limit weighing 13 pounds 6 ounces. Smith brought in three fish that weighed in at 6 pounds 9 ounces to tie for 36 place with Chuck Morton of Danville and Tommy Swicegood of Salisbury, North Carolina.
The Big Bass Awards for the day went to John Cook in the boater division and Hubert Roman in the co-angler division. Cook brought in a 7 pound 15 ounce lunker, while Roman weighed in a 6 pound 13 ounce largemouth.
Smith plans to compete in several more tournaments this summer, with the hopes of qualifying for the finals in September. The PCHS graduate will be attending Ferrum College in Rocky Mount this fall, where he plans to be a part of the Panthers wrestling program.
