A 37-year-old Pulaski man pleaded guilty Monday to the aggravated sexual battery of a child under the age of 13.
Steven Ray Sheppard entered his guilty plea as part of an agreement the victim and her mother approved, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney Mike Fleenor. The identity of the child is not being released due to her age and the nature of the crime.
According to Fleenor, the victim reported to police last December that Sheppard inappropriately touched her between her legs.
When confronted by police, Fleenor said, Sheppard at first denied touching the girl, then said he may have accidentally touched her stomach. He said Sheppard insisted any touching that may have occurred was accidental.
Under the plea agreement, Sheppard was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with all but two years, six months suspended. Sheppard will be placed on three years of active probation upon release and he is required to register as a sex offender.
Sheppard is prohibited from having further contact with the victim.
