The administration of Pulaski County High School confirmed Thursday that long time baseball head coach Doug Dunavant will not be returning for the 2014 season.

Pulaski County finished the 2013 regular season with an overall record of 6-12 and a 1-9 River Ridge District showing.  The teams lone district victory came on the road in Roanoke when they shocked the Cave Spring Knights 15-7.  The teams other win over an AA opponent came against the Northside Vikings.

On April 2, 2012, he was presented a signed game ball by his team to recognize his 100th career win.  He finishes his time as head coach of the Cougars with 111 wins.

School officials confirmed that the search for the new head coach will begin immediately.

I would like to start out by saying…It is a good day for Baseball in our County. I was very pleased to hear of the news Coach Dunavant will not be returning next year. This action should have been taken years ago. Maybe now the Love of Baseball can return to our Community and our Children. I believe this says it all. No need to tell or speak of all the Bad we all as parents, children, and fans have had to endoure because of Dunavant. Good by and Good riddens.

I guess this move by administration of Pulaski County High School opens the baseball job and by moving Coach Paul Wilson to a PE emen. school job, opens it up to hire Jared King who finished up at UVA and major is a PE teacher. Wow. Time will see…….

As a former coach, I understand that it is impossible to do what’s best for the players and the team, as well as please the parents. I want to applaud those parents who support their children as a member of a team. They are the parents who teach their children by example and commitment. They are the ones who understand that their child’s lack of perfection is not the coach’s fault.

I appreciate all that Doug Dunavant has done for baseball at Pulaski County High School. He demonstrated, not only a love for the sport, but a love for the students/players. I trust God has a better plan, and I know Doug does as well.

Any one that speaks against Doug Dunavant is clearly ignorant. He was a amazing man and coach. And if your child played baseball with him and you are still being as childish as to say mean things about him you are in deperate need for a LIFE! And if you read the article you can’t tell if they ask him not to continue to do it or if he choose not to because it does not tell. It just says they confirmed.
