The Wytheville Golf Club welcomed the Blue Ridge Junior Tour on Monday June 24. 74 players participated ranging in age from 5-18. Numerous volunteers from the club helped to make the day a special one for the young players. “Wytheville Golf Club provides an excellent setting for a junior golf tour. We deeply appreciate their hospitality and their attention to junior golf”. (Quote from Dewayne Belcher, Director of the Blue Ridge Junior Golf Tour) Many participants in the Tour come from Wytheville and the efforts of the Club. Here are the results:
16-18 Age Group 6171 yards Par 70
Jared Porter of Princeton, West Virginia won for the second consecutive tournament by firing a one over par 71. Porter played steady all day making 13 pars. Porter said “I found the golf course to be in great shape and I putted well. We are very hankful to Wytheville for hosting us”. Tyler Hillyer of Princeton, West Virginia, Ben Ramsey of Bluefield, Virginia and Gavin Hanks of Pulaski, Virginia tied for second in the competitive division with scores of 74. Jeremy Lester of Hardy, Virginia finished 5th with a 75 followed by Peyton Garrett of Damascus, Virginia and Conrad Thacker of Abingdon, Virginia who had scores of 76. Blake Hash of Tazewell was 8th with a 77. Ike Judy of Lindside, West Virginia was 9th at 78 and Colin Hancock finished the top 10 with a score of 80.
14-15 Age Group 5691 yards Par 70
Maxwell Dillon of Wytheville, Virginia won the age group with a score of 78. Joel Carlos of Bluefield, West Virginia was second with a score of 79. Steven Parker of Princeton, West Virginia and Alex Arnold of Wytheville, Virginia tied for third at 84.
12-13 Age Group 5055 yards Par 70
Ben Carroll of Blacksburg, Virginia won the age group with a score of 80. Noah Clark of Pearisburg, Virginia was second with an 82. Carson Profitt of Camp Creek, West Virginia was 3rd with a score of 83.
10-12 Age Group 2011 yards Par 34
Channing Blevins of Wytheville, Virginia won the age group with a score of 39. Peyton Coe of Wytheville, Virginia was second at 41. Noah Moler from Newport, Virginia was 3rd with a 42.
9 and Under Age Group 1661 yards Par 34
Benson Blevins of Wytheville, Virginia won the age group with a 9 hole of score of 53. Braden Watkins of Bluefield, Virginia was 2nd with a 60. Aiden Alexander of Christiansburg, Virginia was 3rd with a 61.
The Tour continues on Monday July 8 at the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech.
