Parts of county under flood advisory

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has extended a flood advisory to include southeastern Pulaski County and eastern Wythe County.

The advisory is in effect until 2 p.m. today. At 7:42 a.m., the New River was at 8.75 feet at the Allisonia gauge, where flood stage is 8 feet. The weather service reports that flooding will be confined to locations right along the river, including Clarks Ferry Road.

Additional rainfall of .25-.5 inches is expected in scattered showers today. Although this additional rain will not cause a further rise on the river, it may slow its decline somewhat.

If you encounter a roadway that is covered with water, do not drive through the water because the depth may be too great to allow safe crossing.
