The Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley is holding an artist reception on Sunday, May 19 from 2-4 p.m. for the opening of a new exhibit.

The Fine Arts Center will be featuring George Shumate, oil and watercolor artist, May 15 through July 15 in the center’s gallery located on West Main Street in Pulaski.

Shumate works with oil and watercolor and currently lives in Roanoke. He grew up in Southwest Virginia, and his work is influenced by the local area’s beauty of nature and wildlife. He studied architectural engineering at Virginia Tech, and has been painting for over 40 years.

“I thank God each day for the gift to paint and truly feel the reward of success,” Shumate stated in a press release.

The gallery is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information contact the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley at 540-980-7363.
