The Hensel Eckman YMCA of Pulaski will once again offer swimming lessons for children this spring in preparation for summer swimming.

“We really offer consistent year-round lessons in six-week blocks,” noted Child Care Program Director Brittany O’Dell, but said that the Y likes to stress them in the springtime, as more children are apt to get in the water in summer.

As for the lessons themselves, says O’Dell, “We build off of what the children know, and water safety is a priority. We try to focus on floating, the breast stroke, and freestyle.”

The lessons will be structured and given in a heated pool with instructors.

“We’re really excited about it this year,” said O’Dell. “You can never be too careful in making sure your child is competent and confident in the water.”

Children’s swim lessons will be offered for six weeks each Saturday starting April 13 at the Hensel Eckman YMCA, 615 Oakhurst Avenue in Pulaski. Classes begin every half hour starting from 8 a.m. -11 a.m. with the time slots being determined by age and the child’s current ability.

Prices are $36 for members and $46 for non-members. For more information, contact Britney O’Dell at (540) 980-3671.
