The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced a number of projects to occur on roadways in our area over the next week, as crews repair asphalt and bridges and widen certain roads.
Lane closures will be in place for asphalt repairs along I-81 between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Tuesday, April 23 between mile markers 87 and 105, southbound. The next night, Wednesday, April 24, there will be lane closures between mile markers 87 and 105, northbound. Repairs will move into Montgomery County Thursday, April 25 from 10 p.m.-6 a.m. between mile markers 105 and 130, southbound.
Weather permitting, flaggers may control traffic during daylight hours between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on (Peppers Ferry Road), in association with replacement of the Route 114 bridge over the New River at the Pulaski/Montgomery County line. The public boat ramp is now open. Trucks will be entering and exiting the highway and drivers are warned to expect delays.
Flaggers also may control traffic at times for utility operations taking place for a road widening project on Route 114 (Peppers Ferry Road) near the New River
Valley Mall. Trucks will be entering and exiting the road in this area. Occasional flagging operations will take place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on weekdays. The right turn lane on Peppers Ferry Road leading to Stafford Drive will be closed and traffic will be detoured to Quinn Stuart Boulevard from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Peppers Ferry Road east of the railroad tracks will be narrowed to one lane with flaggers controlling traffic from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. on weekdays.
