Robert Bruce Kilgore

ABINGDON–Robert Bruce Kilgore, age 80, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013. He was born to the late Wilson Roosevelt Kilgore and Lura Moorefield Kilgore in Warrior Mine, W.Va. on June 20, 1932. Bob was a loving family man who lived his life in service to others. He was a deacon, an elder, and an active participant in various churches through the years and in many charitable organizations and civic clubs.  He loved Virginia Tech, power companies, a good piece of pie, coalmines, trains and southwest Virginia.  He preferred a country road to the highway. He traveled widely and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends near and far.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Charlene D. Kilgore and brother, Jerry Kilgore. He is survived by his son, R. Scott Kilgore and wife, Carrie, of Vienna; daughter, Sara Szwarc and husband, Adam, of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren, Jane Katherine Kilgore, Christopher Robert Kilgore, Nadia Szwarc, and Marisa Szwarc; and niece, Cynthia Kilgore Shaikh and husband, Naeem, of Richmond.

A memorial service will be held in June with the specifics to be determined.
