Irene Virginia Farmer Brock, 91, of Pulaski went to her home in Heaven on Saturday, March 30, 2013. She was born in Arista, W.Va. on March 3, 1922 and was the daughter of the late William Larry Farmer and Betsy Ann Anderson Farmer.
Irene was a wonderful and caring person who dearly loved her family. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and will be missed greatly. She was a seamstress and loved all types of crafts. She worked at Walner Mills, the Plastic Plant, and was assistant manager of the S&H Green Stamp Store. Irene was a member of Open Door Baptist Church, which she and her husband, the Rev. Rufus Brock founded.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Claude Farmer; sisters, Mildred Jones, Adenia Daugherty, Doris Graham; a great-grandson, Brendan Shelton; a great-granddaughter, Gracie Shelton and by a very special son-in-law, Bill Steffey.
Irene leaves to cherish her memory her husband, the Rev. Rufus A. Brock; daughter, Linda Brock Steffey; granddaughters and spouses, Susan and Erick Wirt of Dublin, Sonya and Robbie Shelton of Pulaski, and Sarah and Allen Tuggle of Pulaski; precious great-grandchildren, Megan and Ben Wirt, Austin and Seth Tuggle, and Katie Shelton; sisters, Lucille Bowyer of Pulaski and Jean Burgess of Stone Mountain, Ga.; brothers, Roy Glenn Farmer of Dublin and Walter Farmer of Pulaski, and a very special pet, Ginger.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 3, at 1 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kelly Howlett officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin.
Visiting will be Tuesday evening at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Irene’s memory to the Pulaski Daily Bread (because of her continued concern for the hungry), P. O. Box 824, Pulaski, VA 24301 or to the Open Door Baptist Church.
