Ernestine Kaye Banks

BLACKSBURG—Ernestine Kaye Banks of Blacksburg, formerly of Pulaski, went home to be with her loving Lord on April 19, 2013 at Montgomery Regional Hospital, after a long illness.

“Kaye” was born on March 24, 1951 in Pulaski to Lawrence and Margaret Powell. She attended Christiansburg Institute in Christiansburg. She was employed by Pulaski Furniture Co. for many years, and also worked for O’Charley’s and Ryan’s restaurants of Christiansburg.

Kaye was a very faithful and dedicated member of Faith Tabernacle U. H. Church in Dublin, where she loved singing in the choir. Kaye loved the Lord and loved to tell others what He had done for her.  Reading her Bible, quoting scriptures and watching football all brought her joy.  Her Sundays were made for church and football.  At family cookouts, if a horseshoe pit was around, she was always in the game.  Kaye loved her family.

Kaye was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Stephanie Renee Powell, and sister, Gloria Powell.

She leaves to her cherish her memory her precious son, Akeem Lewis, who she called “AA,” of Blacksburg; a loving grandson, Malcolm Powell, of Radford; three sisters, Rosslind Powell, Geneva (Harry) Austin and Melissa Powell, all of Pulaski; brother, Larry Powell of Pulaski; stepchildren, Tammy Christian, Chrissy Cook and Monty Lewis; a very dedicated, special friend, Doug Lewis, of Radford; aunt, Drucilla Harvey, of Rich Creek, and a great host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her guard dog, “Lil Bit”.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 26, at Randolph Avenue United Methodist Church, with Elder David Lewis officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment followed at Pine Hurst Cemetery, Pulaski.

Arrangements entrusted to Penn’s Funeral Home, Pulaski.
