Mildred Kesling Kidd

KERNERSVILLE – Mildred Kesling Kidd, 89, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

She was born June 20, 1923 in Pulaski County to the late Charles Henry and Mamie Tabor Kesling. Mildred was a very strong lady who was a single mom and worked extremely hard her entire life.  She loved to grow flowers but especially she enjoyed cooking for her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel “Sonny” Roope; her second husband, Robert “Buck” Kidd, and two brothers, James E. Kesling and Ralph Kesling.

Surviving are her daughter, Betty Ann Brandis, and husband, Keith, of Kernersville; one son, Roger Kesling and wife, Diane, of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister, Lois Gibbs of Eastpointe, Mich.; four grandchildren, Benjamin Brandis, Brad Rector, Kim McFarland and Kathy Barrett; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 15, 7-9 p.m., at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, March 16, 2 p.m., at Oakwood Cemetery in Pulaski.

A special thanks to her doctors, Judith Hopkins and Marc Slatkoff; also, Mildred appreciated the staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, especially Roxanne and Marquita, and her daily caretaker, Betty Wilson, for her comfort and words of encouragement.
