Maiming charge certified in DUI wreck

A Radford man involved in a head-on collision in the Parrott area in August has been indicted on a charge of felony maiming as a result of intoxicated driving.

The charge against Robert Timothy Furrow, 46 was among indictments handed down by a Pulaski County grand jury in February and unsealed Wednesday morning.

At the time of the wreck, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jeff Saunders said Furrow was driving a 1995 Ford Taurus on Belspring Road around 10:22 a.m. when the car dropped off the side of the road. Furrow overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross the centerline and collide head-on with a 2001 Nissan Sentra.

Furrow and the driver of the Sentra, Kaitlyn Albert, 21, of Parrott were treated and released at area hospitals.

The maiming charge is a Class 6 felony, carrying a maximum penalty of five years in prison and possible permanent revocation of driving privileges.

An indictment is a finding enough evidence exists to hold a trial. It is not a finding of guilt.
