Jimmy Lark, 86, life long resident of Pulaski, passed away peacefully the morning of March 5, 2013 at the Highland Ridge Care Facility in Dublin, following a brief stay at Pulaski Lewis Gale Hospital.
He was born April 14, 1926 to James W. Lark, Sr. (“Birdie”) and Lavina Laughon Lark (“Lovie”). “Big Jim” was an avid golfer, lover of the fly rod casting club, gardening, following the VT Hokies, where he was a proud graduate and a former captain of the golf team, where he had the honor of competing against the likes of Arnold Palmer and Dow Finsterwall. He was a longtime member of the Pulaski Country Club/Thornspring Golf Course and served the armed forces in the Army Air Force. He was a former Grand Exalted Ruler-BPOE of the Pulaski Elks Club. He was the owner, operator, agent of the VA Mutual Insurance Company of Pulaski for over thirty plus years. He always appreciated the countless customers and friends he cultivated over the many years as he was entrusted to serve their needs.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Betty O. Lark, of Pulaski; sons, Dr. James W. Lark III of Earlysville/Charlottesville, Fredrick S. Lark, “The Beatle Guy of Blacksburg,” Gary O. Lark, daughter-in-law, Jennifer Lark and granddaughters Alexa and Anna Lark of Mathews/Charlotte, N.C.
As per his wishes and final request, services will be simple and private to the immediate family. Those wishing to make a donation in his name would be welcome to contribute to either The First United Methodist Church in Pulaski, or the athletic fund at Virginia Tech. Please remember, “hit ‘em long and straight… and no erasures on that scorecard!”
