Those interested in a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) career can get on the fast track to receiving certification through a program at New River Community College.

The fast-track HVAC program will be held Mondays through Fridays beginning March 25. The program is free for those eligible under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).

Courses offered under the HVAC program include instruction in industrial safety and first aid, air conditioning and refrigeration, national electric code, residential wiring, heat pumps and basic computer skills. ACT WorkKeys tests will be administered to prepare students for receiving a Career Readiness Certificate from the state.

Industry representatives will be available to meet with students about employment opportunities at the conclusion of the program July 22.

To qualify for the “fast-track” program, students must be at least 18 years old, possess fine motor skills, be physically fit and pass a drug test.

Support for the program is provided by Virginia Department of Education’s Office of Adult Education and Literacy, New River/Mount Rogers Workforce Investment Board and PluggedInVA, a Career Pathways program for adult learners.

For more information on the HVAC program and WIA eligibility criteria, contact NRCC’s Office of Transitional Programs at 674-3682 or  HYPERLINK “mailto:GED@nr.edu” \t “_blank” GED@nr.edu.
