Wilbur Lee Covey, age 82, of the Mt. Olivet Community, Pulaski, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 at his residence. Mr. Covey was a retired employee of General Motors in Cleveland, and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Covey also attended the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Radford.
He was born on Sept. 5, 1930 in Pulaski, and was the son of the late Nora Songer Covey and William Leb Covey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nelma Gay Smith Covey; a son, Thurman Lee Covey; a grandson, Douglas Covey; sisters, Joyce Chinault and Aileen Ruby Hurst, and brothers, Eugene Covey and George Covey.
He is survived by his son, Michael Wayne Covey of Pulaski; daughters, Deborah L. Edwards and her husband Richard E. of Powhatan, and Brenda Trahan and her husband Obray of League City, Texas; sister, Rita Newman and brother-in-law Claude of Pulaski; brothers, Arnold (Doug) and his wife Dammi of Greensboro, N.C., and the Rev. William (Junior) Covey of Pulaski. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, 11 a.m. at Seagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Hufford Cemetery. The family would like to give thanks to his hospice nurses, Venessa Coake and Lindsey Glock. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
