Two Cougars, three Lady Cougars selected for All-RRD honors

With the final River Ridge District basketball season coming to an end, five Pulaski County athletes have been honored with selections to the All-River Ridge District team.  The team is voted on by the coaches of the district.

On the boys side, junior Lonnie Mattox was selected for the second team, while junior Cameron Merchant was selected as an honorable mention.  The first team consisted of Dylan Hodson of Hidden Valley, Troy Mann and Matt Hill of Salem, Michael Ayares of Blacksburg, and Joey Augustine of Christiansburg.  The Player of the Year was Dylan Hodson of HIdden Valley, and the Coach of the Year was Kevin Garst of Salem.

The second team unit is made up of Kaleb Bohrnstedt and Brandon Walters of Blacksburg, Conner Baker of Cave Spring, Alex Light of Salem, Tanner Cayton of Christiansburg, and Mattox.  Those receiving an honorable mention in addition to Merchant were Will Pratt of Salem, Cager Hicks and Ben Lacy of Cave Spring, and Eric James and Grayson Shelton of Blacksburg.

On the girls side, three Lady Cougars received recognition.  Freshman Meredith Mitchell was selected to the second team, while sophomore Chelsea Golden and senior Jordan Chrisley received an honorable mention.  The first team consisted of Tay Taylor and Tessa Foley of Salem, Darian Thorton of Christiansburg, and Hailey Singleton and Kelly King of Hidden Valley.  The Player of the Year is Tay Taylor of Salem, and the Co-Coaches of the Year are D. Harell of Salem and Roger Henderson of Blacksburg.

The second unit contains Kelsey Bailey of Hidden Valley, Kim Migliarese and Maddie Price of Salem, Shannon Stuart of Christiansburg, Hailey Sitze of Christiansburg, and Mitchell.  Joining Golden and Chrisley as honorable mentions are Gracie Whiteside of Hidden Valley, Taylor Asimakopoulos of Cave Spring, and Chris Martin and Maura McMahan of Blacksburg.

Both the Cougar and Lady Cougar teams will return a large portion of their lineups next season, as the squads only had two seniors each.
