NRCC offering free employment workshops

Searching for a job in today’s dynamic market can be difficult. To help job seekers compete, New River Community College’s career advisors are offering free employment workshops in February and March.

“How Can a Wizard Find Me a Job?” will be offered on Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the NRV Mall site in Christiansburg. The workshop will also be offered from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. at NRCC in Dublin on Thursday, Feb. 14.

Participants in this hands-on workshop will learn to use the Virginia Wizard online tool to assess their career skills, interests and values. They will also learn about in-demand careers in southwest Virginia and average pay rates.

On Wednesday, March 6, “How to Work a Job Fair” will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the NRV Mall site. This workshop will also be held on Thursday, March 7, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. at NRCC in Dublin.

Participants in this workshop will learn how to be successful when dealing with the wide range of employers present at job fairs. The workshop will cover tips and strategies on what materials to bring to a job fair, creating an “elevator pitch,” and appropriate follow-up.

No pre-registration is required to attend any of these workshops. More information may be obtained by contacting the NRCC Office of Workforce Development at 674-3613.
