Make plans with your sweetheart to spend an evening in the company of “The Marvelous Wonderettes” as Springer Theatricals brings the lively 50s and 60s song-and-dance revue to the Pulaski Theatre stage. This will be the show’s only performance in Virginia this year.
The production will be presented in collaboration between the Fine Arts Center for the NRV (FACNRV) and Friends of the Pulaski Theatre.
“The Marvelous Wonderettes” takes the audience on a journey through a decade between four Springfield High School teens, from a performance for classmates on prom night and an ensuing competition as all four girls are nominated for Prom Queen, then takes a trip across ten years to a class reunion.
The hit off-Broadway show was written and directed by Roger Bean. The spectacular performance features 50s and 60s pop classics such as “Lollipop,” “Stupid Cupid,” “Mr. Lee,” “It’s My Party,” “Heat Wave,” “Leader of the Pack,” “R.E.S.P.E.C.T.,” “Son of a Preacher Man,” and many more hits of the eras. The show promises to have lots of thrilling moments and also calls for some audience participation.
Judy Ison, FACNRV director, said Thursday that plenty of tickets are still available for the performance but are beginning to move more quickly as the date of the show approaches.
The show is scheduled for Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be reserved by calling the Fine Arts Center at 980-7363 or by stopping by the FAC across from Pulaski Theatre. Tickets are also available for purchase at Martin’s Pharmacy in Pulaski, Pulaski County Visitor’s Center in Dublin, and Barry’s Music, Main Street, Radford.
Springer Theatricals is the national touring unit of Georgia’s official state theatre, the Springer Opera House in Columbus. The 142-year-old opera house is on the National Historic Landmarks register.
